This guided
Tour of Athens combines many of the city's principal
modern and classical sights culminating with a tour of the “Holy
rock” Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum.
Your professional guide will provide an overview of this modern
city in striking contrast to the remains of its glorious past.
You'll drive by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the
Parliament House on Constitution Square (Syntagma Square), the
Panathenian Stadium
which was the site of the first modern
Olympic Games in 1896.
Drive along Panepistimiou Avenue and view St. Denis Roman
Catholic Cathedral, the Academy, University, National Library
and Omonia Square. See vistas of the Presidential Palace (ex
Royal Palace), government buildings and elegant homes.
You will then visit the Roman Temple of Olympian Zeus and the
beauty that was the crowning glory of Athens ancient past, the
Acropolis, with its many monuments built on top of its rocky
base, including the awesome Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Temple
of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion with its Porch of Maidens.

Cape Sounion
This afternoon

which affords a splendid view of the Saronic Gulf.
Pass
through some of Athens' most beautiful and elegant suburbs like
Glyfada, Vouliagmeni and Varzika before arriving at Cape
Sounion where you will visit the 5th century B.C. Temple
of Poseidon. The temple offers one of the most breathtaking
panoramic views in the world and on a clear day you can see at
least seven islands.
The Doric columns of local marble have 16 flutings
instead of the usual 20. The precipice is a sheer 197 foot drop
to the sea.

Ancient Corinth
This half-day
excursion visits the impressive Corinth Canal and the ruins of
Ancient Corinth. |

Leaving Athens and driving westwards along the scenic coast
until we reach the Corinth Canal which separates the mainland
from the Peloponesse and connects the Aegean and Ionian Seas.
Here we'll have a short stop to admire the breathtaking views of
the famous canal which is 78 meters high, 24 meters wide, 6,343
meters long and 12 meters deep.
We then continue on to visit the town of Ancient Corinth where
St. Paul lived and preached for two years. The remains of the
city, which includes the Agora (market place) and Apollo's
Temple (6th century B.C.) clearly show how rich and important
Corinth was in ancient times.
A short stop at the site of the ancient Port of Cehries, where
St. Paul disembarked, will conclude the visit.
Returning to Athens in time for lunch.
